Alton Nehemiah Ellis OD (1 September 1938 – 10 October 2008) was a Jamaican singer-songwriter. One of the innovators of rocksteady , he was given the informal title "Godfather of Rocksteady". [3] [4] [5] In 2006, he was inducted into the International Reggae And World Music Awards Hall Of Fame.

Alton Ellis. Jamaican singer, songwriter, producer and promoter. Alton Ellis was born in down town Kingston into a musical family and raised in Trenchtown, Kingston. He was the older brother of reggae singer Hortense Ellis and at the end of his life father of 20 children including Noel Ellis.
