Peter Gabriel se inició en el mundillo musical como batería para diversas bandas de música soul y rock, funda en 1966 un colectivo de letristas de canciones en su escuela secundaria, junto con algunos de sus compañeros de clase, al que bautizaría con el nombre de The Garden Wall.
Collins publicó su autobiografía en 2016, afirmando en la introducción de la misma, que él se retiró de Genesis en 2007. En 2016 Peter Gabriel en su gira con el músico Sting, luego de más de 30 años sin interpretar canciones de Genesis, interpretó la introducción de « Dancing with the Moonlit Knight ».
