21 de feb. de 2024 · Swordfish live in surface water to mid-water but feed throughout the water column. Scientists know little about the migration of Pacific swordfish, but tagging data suggest swordfish move eastward from the central Pacific, north of Hawaii, toward the U.S. West Coast.
Swordfish are elongated, round-bodied, and lose all teeth and scales by adulthood. These fish are found widely in tropical and temperate parts of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, and can typically be found from near the surface to a depth of 550 m (1,800 ft), and exceptionally up to depths of 2,234 m. [2]
Distinguishing features include its sword-like bill, no teeth, crescent-shaped dorsal fins, large eys, crescent-shaped tails, and lack of pelvic fins. [1] Has a dark-colored back that fades to a light underbelly, and has no scales as an adult. [1]
Swordfish are uniquely adapted to live in various environments, and they can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans.
