In speaking, we often use if-clauses without main clauses, especially when asking people politely to do things. If is usually followed by will, would, can or could when it is used to be polite: [Shop assistant to customer]
For example: If it rains, we will cancel the trip. If it rains …. is the if-clause (the condition) An if-clause begins with IF and has a subject and a verb. We will cancel the trip …. is the main clause (the result) If introduces a condition. This is something that may or may not happen, depending on the circumstances.
IF + SIMPLE PAST (Condición ) / PRESENT CONDITIONAL or PRESENT CONTINUOUS CONDITIONAL (Resultado) If I were rich, I would travel around the world. – Si fuera rico/a, viajaría por todo el mundo. Conditional Sentences are also known as Conditional Clauses or If Clauses. They are used to express that the action in the main clause (without if) can only take place if a certain condition (in the clause with if) is fulfilled. There are three types of Conditional Sentences.
