Keith Richards with the Fender Telecaster “Micawber” in its stock condition at Villa Nellcote. According to Andy Babiuk’s book, Rolling Stones Gear , during these sessions, Keith removed the top E string from the Tele and played it in open G tuning (GDGBD) – something he eventually became known for.
Keith used his 1954 Blackguard Tele in its factory stock condition for the beginning of the tour before his guitar tech, Ted Newman Jones III, replaced the neck position Fender pickups on the Telecasters with Gibson PAF humbuckers.
