30 de abr. de 2009 · Acoustic surveys of stocks of small pelagic fish, in particular the Peruvian anchovy or anchoveta (Engraulis ringens), have been carried out off the coast of Peru since the late 1970s. In all, 51 of these have been carefully archived since 1983.

This paper reviews the ICES contributions in the field and describes the gen-eral principles of a technique which has evolved to provide a powerful means for inves-tigating the abundance, distribution, behaviour, and ecology of fish, plankton, and other marine organisms.
