Caress of Steel was remastered again in 2011 by Andy VanDette for the "Sector" box sets, which re-released all of Rush's Mercury-era albums. Caress Of Steel is included in the Sector 1 set. Caress of Steel was remastered for vinyl in 2015 as a part of the official "12 Months of Rush" promotion.
Initially panned as indulgent and pretentious on its 1975 release, Rush’s Caress of Steel found the Canadian trio abandoning the proto-metal style of its two preceding albums and fully embracing progressive rock. (The opener “Bastille Day” is the token hard rock vestige.)
Caress of Steel featured long pieces broken up into various sections and long solo passages. It is often considered notable for the inclusion of the band’s first two epic pieces, “The Necromancer” and “The Fountain of Lamneth.”.
