A more likely source of partial inspiration for Event Horizon is Disney's (of all people) The Black Hole from '79. Or at least the ending. I'd imagine there's at least a few other black-hole-as-hellgate stories out there as well.
Event Horizon is genuinely the best 40k movie. Not that there’s much competition, but still. Genuinely convinced me that a proper 40k live action horror film could work.
'Event Horizon' as a prequel to WH40K Universe. Pretty small theory, but the 'gravity drive' and it's effects on the human psyche are very simlar to the effects of the Warp. 'Event Horizon' was mankind's first venture into the warp... and the powers of Chaos.
