In early 1970 the band's name was shortened to "Raiders" and one year later the hugely successful cover of the song "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" reached number one in both the US and Canada and was eventually certified platinum in 1996.
Paul Revere and the Raiders covered the song for their 1971 album Indian Reservation. Their version topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a week in July of 1971.
The album is best known for the title track, which reached No. 1 in the U.S. on July 24, becoming the first and only number-one hit of (Paul Revere &) the Raiders. In Canada, the song peaked at No. 2 for four weeks.
