The Brothers Grimm were German folklorists and linguists who are best known for their Grimm’s Fairy Tales (1812–22), which led to the modern study of folklore. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm together compiled other collections of folk music and folk literature, and Jacob did important work in historical linguistics and philology.

Grimms' Fairy Tales, originally known as the Children's and Household Tales (German: Kinder- und Hausmärchen, pronounced [ˌkɪndɐ ʔʊnt ˈhaʊsmɛːɐ̯çən], commonly abbreviated as KHM), is a German collection of fairy tales by the Grimm brothers or "Brothers Grimm", Jacob and Wilhelm, first published on 20 December 1812.

When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children’s and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as “Rapunzel,” “Hansel and Gretel,” and “Cinderella” would become the most celebrated in the world.
