The Actual Difference Between Gunite and Shotcrete. Both gunite and shotcrete are types of concrete pools. The main difference is how the concrete is mixed and applied. Shotcrete refers to pre-mixing your concrete with water and then applying it with a hose.
Shotcrete and gunite are both different forms of pneumatically applied concrete. “Pneumatically applied” means that the concrete is applied under pressure through a hose and a nozzle or “gun” instead of poured into forms like traditional concrete.
Shotcrete is an all-inclusive term to describe the spraying of concrete or mortar that may be accomplished through either a dry- or wet-mix process. Gunite refers only to the dry-mix process in which the dry cementitious mixture is blown through a hose to the nozzle, where the water is injected immediately prior to application.
