20 de oct. de 2022 · Focusing adverbs. Focusing adverbs are used to emphasize a particular part of a sentence. They’re typically positioned next to the word they’re drawing attention to. Some common focusing adverbs include: “only,” “just,” “especially,” “even,” “either,” and “neither.”
Today's English lesson for advanced English learners is about focus adverbs or focussing adverbs. We use focus adverbs in English to highlight the most relevant parts of our sentences.
Focusing adverbs such as also, just, even, only mainly, mostly, particularly, especially, either or, neither nor, etc. differ because they point to a part of a clause. Focusing adverbs can modify noun phrases, prepositional phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases and adverbial phrases.

I’ll come up in a minute. Manner adverbs tell us about the way something happens or is done. Manner adverbs are often formed from adjectives by adding -ly: She spoke very loudly. We could all hear what she was saying. We waited anxiously by the phone. We walked up the stairs very quietly because Mum and Dad were asleep.

In these two examples, the adverbs tell us how the verb is performed: He walked quickly. (In this example, "walked" is the verb, and the adverb "quickly" describes how the verb was done.)
