Thus the Downtowner Restaurant became Swingos Keg & Quarter, serving garlic-drenched food to businessmen staying at the adjoining Downtowner Hotel. In 1971 Swingos bought the hotel—a dicey move given that Cleveland was hardly the world’s destination of choice.
A significant transformation is underway at the corner of West 25th Street and Detroit Avenue in Ohio City. Abattoir is a space for contemporary art in the historic Hildebrandt Building, a former meat processing plant in the resurgent Clark-Fulton neighborhood of Cleveland, located between the West 25th Street corridor and Ohio City. The gallery was launched in 2020 by Lisa Kurzner and Rose Burlingham.
