General Information. The General Education Program is designed to provide students in all academic majors and professional programs with the knowledge and skills of a college-educated citizen. General Education focuses on eleven learning outcomes through three core courses, seven distribution areas, and a second language requirement.

Directed/Independent Studies. Most departments have courses that use X90, X91, and X92 for either Directed Study or Independent Study options. Most are at the 400-level, but there are some are at the 300-level. Additions to this general rule are BIOL 493 and 494; CHEM 493; MUS 494; and PHYS 493.
