Today, more than 100 world leaders have promised to end and reverse deforestation by 2030 at the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference. The pledge, which includes almost $19.2 billion of public and private funds, is a landmark move for nature.
Between 2010 and 2020, the net loss in forests globally was 4.7 million hectares per year. 1 However, deforestation rates were much higher. The UN FAO estimates that 10 million hectares of forest are cut down each year. This interactive map shows deforestation rates across the world.
