Nebraska State law requires anyone who digs to place a locate request at least two full business days before digging. Once your request is submitted, utilities will locate and mark their lines.

Hand digging is required within the tolerance zone which is 18 inches plus half the width of the marked underground facility. A person shall expose the underground facility to its outermost surfaces by hand or other nondestructive techniques.

Nebraska 811 stated those who plan to dig should go to their state 811 center’s website or call 811 before digging to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked.
All Nebraska excavators, member utility company representatives and locators are encouraged to attend these FREE educational meetings hosted by Nebraska811. Locating workshops are offered at most of the in-person meetings as well.
