Bert Ruiter (born 26 November 1946 – 14 March 2022) was a Dutch bass guitarist, record producer, and composer. He was best known for being the bassist for Focus from 1971 to 1978. Ruiter was also the bassist for Earth and Fire from 1978 to 1990, later marrying the groups lead vocalist Jerney Kaagman .

Focus found their new bassist in Bert Ruiter, who had previously rehearsed with van der Linden prior to a gig in Texel in June 1971, and went on to see the band live around ten times thereafter. He was invited by the drummer to a tryout session, after which he became a full-time member.

The new members debuted on the follow-up Focus II, before Havermans was replaced by Bert Ruiter in September 1971. The lineup remained stable for Focus 3 , before van der Linden left in October 1973 due to musical differences with van Leer and Akkerman. [1]
