Su trabajo se centra principalmente en las personas y las caras, aunque a veces se vuelca a temas como flores, paisajes o ambientes humanos. Wright recoge la esencia de sus personajes. Cada obra tiene su propia expresión emocional. Sin divulgar demasiado, cada pintura muestra temas reconocibles.
La forma en que Wright plasma las arrugas de unas botas bastante desgastadas o los pliegues o manchas de un mono de trabajo conduce también al espectador al mundo privado e íntimo del retratado.
