A hostage is a type of NPC in the Counter-Strike series. They are the objectives in hostage rescue scenarios. Counter-Terrorists must rescue the hostages by bringing them to a hostage rescue zone or eliminating Terrorists, and the Terrorists must prevent the CTs from extracting the hostages by either running down the clock or eliminating the CTs.

Hostage Rescue mode is a game mode where the round winning conditions for the two teams are: Counter-Terrorists. Rescue at least half of the hostages and there are no remaining living or un-rescued hostages (Excluding Global Offensive and CS2) Rescue any of the hostages ( Global Offensive and CS2 only)
