Pun Plamondon was born in Traverse City, Mich. in 1945 to a part-Ojibway mother and half-Ottawa father. He was adopted by a Caucasian couple, the Plamondons, who named him Lawrence Robert. Plamondon was not aware of his Native American roots until he was 16 years old.
