Claude Félix Abel Niépce de Saint-Victor (26 July 1805, Saint-Cyr, Saône-et-Loire – 7 April 1870, Paris) was a French photographic inventor. Claude was an army lieutenant and the cousin of Nicéphore Niépce.
It fell to Claude Felix Abel Niépce de Saint-Victor, a cousin of Nicéphore, a military man with a strong interest in chemistry, to make the decisive step towards the negative on glass plate in 1848: he had the idea of using albumin (egg white) as the “adhesive” in the sensitive emulsion on the glass.
Claude Felix Abel Niepce de Saint Victor was born on July 26, 1805 in Saint-Cyr, France. He was the first cousin of photographic pioneer Joseph Nicephore Niepce. Mr. Niepce de Saint Victor embarked upon a military career at the school Lamar, which he left in 1827, with the rank of Quarter Master to the 1st regiment of dragoons.
