The Barakzai dynasty was established by Dost Mohammad Khan after the Durrani dynasty of Ahmad Shah Durrani was removed from power. The Muhammadzai era was known for its progressivist modernity in which Afghanistan was referred to as the "Switzerland of Asia". [5]
