Sir William Edward Parry FRS (19 December 1790 – 8 July 1855) was a Royal Navy officer and explorer best known for his 1819–1820 expedition through the Parry Channel, probably the most successful in the long quest for the Northwest Passage, until it was finally negotiated by Roald Amundsen in 1906.

William Edward Parry was a key figure in the discovery of the North-West Passage. On his first voyage he discovered a route through Lancaster Sound. Parry's first voyage in 1819 was one of the most important in the exploration of the Passage - the seaway across the Arctic, linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Sir William Edward Parry, naval officer, Arctic explorer (born 19 December 1790 in Bath, England; died 8 or 9 July 1855 in Bad Ems, present-day Germany). Parry was involved in four expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage: the first as lieutenant under Captain John Ross, followed by three of his own ventures.
