Leon "Ndugu" Chancler (/ ɪ n ˈ d uː ɡ uː ˈ tʃ æ n s l ər / in-DOO-goo CHANSS-lər; July 1, 1952 – February 3, 2018) was an American pop, funk, and jazz drummer. He was also a composer, producer, and university professor.

Leon “Ndugu” Chancler was born in Shreveport, Louisianna, on July 1, 1952, but soon moved to Los Angeles with his family. He started teaching himself to play drums at age 13, getting advice from older musicians. While in high school he started playing Latin jazz with percussionist Willie Bobo.
Drummer, percussionist, producer, composer, clinician, and educator Leon Ndugu Chancler died on February 3, 2018 after a battle with cancer. His website states that the name “Ndugu” is Swahili for “brother, family, kinsman—for us it means togetherness.”
