Born in Oak Park, Illinois, United States, [1] Tough was a friend of Bud Freeman, who was part of a group of musicians known as the Austin High School Gang in Chicago. [1] .

Dave Tough (born Springfield, Missouri) is an American multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, songwriter and music industry educator. He is also a member of the band Xavier & Ophelia who released their debut album X&O in 2011.
