GREGORY ORR was born February 3, 1947 in Albany, New York. He grew up in the rural Hudson Valley. At the age of twelve, he was responsible for the death of a younger brother in a hunting accident, an event that powerfully influenced his ideas about trauma, silence and poetry.

Gregory William Orr (born 6 August 1954 in Los Angeles) is an American writer and director of documentary and fiction films. He is the son of actress Joy Page and TV producer William T. Orr, and step-grandson of Jack L. Warner, one of the Warner Brothers. [1]
Orr is the author of eleven collections of poetry, including City of Salt (1995) which was a finalist for the LA Times Poetry Prize. He is also the author of a memoir, The Blessing (2002), which was chosen by Publishers Weekly as one of the fifty best non-fiction books of the year, and three books of essays.
