Sus cámaras empezaron a conocerse como Asahi Pentax y en 2002 la compañía pasó a llamarse Pentax Corporation. En 2007 se fusionó con el fabricante japonés de objetivos Hoya Corporation. Lo cual no duró demasiado, en 2011, Hoya Corporation anunció la venta de su negocio de cámaras Pentax al fabricante de impresoras Ricoh.
