Clemens Vonnegut Sr. (November 20, 1824 – December 13, 1906) was a German emigrant to the United States and successful businessman.

Clemens Vonnegut, Sr., (1824-1906) was born in Germany but moved to Indianapolis after the 1848 revolutions. He founded the Vonnegut Hardware Company in 1851 and helped create the first Turnverein in Indianapolis (the Indianapolis Turngemeinde) that same year.

Vonnegut Hardware Company. 1852-1966. Clemens Vonnegut Sr., a native of Germany, immigrated to America at age 27 and started the Vollmer and Vonnegut business with Charles Vollmer. Vonnegut became the sole owner after several years and changed the firm’s name to Clemens Vonnegut, Hardware.
3 de oct. de 2015 · Clemens Jr. was the famed author's Great Uncle if my calculations are correct. These are 'those' Vonnegut's, and yes, he spent his childhood summers, until World War II moved him on, among the 5 or so houses his extended family owned right here, including ours.
