Samuel Edgar Langford (March 4, 1886 – January 12, 1956) [3] was a Black Canadian boxing standout of the early part of the 20th century. Called the "Greatest Fighter Nobody Knows", by ESPN, [4] Langford is considered by many boxing historians to be one of the greatest fighters of all time. [5] .
Sam Langford was a Canadian-born boxer who fought from 1902 to 1926, mostly in the heavyweight division. He had 314 bouts, 254 wins, 178 knockouts, and 38 losses, and was the first black world heavyweight champion.

Born in Canada, Langford began his professional boxing career in 1902 at the age of nineteen with a knockout victory over Jack McVicker in Boston. Quickly rising to prominence, Langford defeated Joe Gans in 1903. The next year, he fought to a draw with Joe Walcott.
