Anne Ryan (1889–1954) was an American Abstract Expressionist artist associated with the New York School.
Anne Ryan (1889-1954) was a pioneer of abstract art and collage in the United States. She created works such as Centaur, Amazon, and The Captive, and participated in several exhibitions at MoMA.
Anne Ryan. Number 13. 1948. Not on view. A poet and longtime resident of Greenwich Village, where her neighbors included many artists and writers associated with the New York School, Ryan began painting at the age of forty-nine.

After seeing Kurt Schwitters's work in 1948, Ryan was inspired to make collages. The following year the first major exhibition of her work took place at the Kharouba Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Her collages use a rich variety of fabrics and papers to achieve effects that are quiet and intimate.
Anne Ryan (1889-1954) was a New York School artist who worked in painting, printmaking and collage. She was influenced by Kurt Schwitters' collages and created over 400 pieces with various materials and textures.
