Gilbertfield House School. Gilbertfield House School was an academy at Hamilton, Lanarkshire, which between 1863 and 1878 prepared boys for entrance to universities, the Civil Service and commerce. Among its pupils were the statesman Bonar Law, the philosopher John Henry Muirhead and the sons of David Livingstone .

David Livingstone (Blantyre, Escocia; 19 de marzo del 1813-Chitambo, Rodesia del Norte; 1 de mayo de 1873) fue un médico, explorador y misionero británico, una de las mayores figuras de la historia de la exploración.Mediante observaciones astronómicas, estableció situaciones correctas en la cartografía africana y realizó informes de botánica, geología y zoología.
Gilbertfield is a well-planned L-plan tower house. The stair tower, which projects to the north, was large enough to accommodate a series of rooms as well as a square turnpike stair. The basement level was vaulted, and contained cellars and a kitchen, which had a large fireplace and oven. A service stair connected the basement with the hall above.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Muirhead was educated at Gilbertfield House School, the Glasgow Academy (1866–70), and proceeded to Glasgow University, where he was deeply influenced by the Hegelianism of Edward Caird, the Professor of Moral Philosophy. He graduated MA in 1875.
