Formed in 1998, the band consisted of Jenny Lewis, Blake Sennett, Pierre de Reeder, and Dave Rock. The group released their debut album Take-Offs and Landings under Seattle-based independent label Barsuk Records in 2001. After that, they released three additional studio albums and several EPs.

Pierre de Reeder (born 1973) is an American guitarist, singer and music producer. He was the bass guitar player for Rilo Kiley, and is affectionately known as "Duke". Pierre married his wife Melissa on May 5, 2006.
Pierre was the bassist (and more) for Rilo Kiley, and has worked with She & Him, M Ward, Ben Gibbard, Sia, Eleni Mandell, and more. Recent session have included Fools Gold, Tim & Eric, Eddie Berman and Laura Marling, Kiefo Nilsson, and the legendary Mavis Staples (produced by M Ward).
