Benjamin Herschel Babbage (6 August 1815 – 22 October 1878) was an English engineer, scientist, explorer and politician, best known for his work in the colony of South Australia. He invariably signed his name "B. Herschel Babbage" and was frequently referred to as "Herschel Babbage".

Benjamin Babbage was the son of mathematician Charles Babbage. He engineered the Port Adelaide to Adelaide railway and was chairman of the District Council of Mitcham, South Australia. After training as an engineer with William Mylne and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Babbage served as an engineering inspector for the Board of Health in England.
Died: 20 October 1878 South Australia, Australia. Benjamin Herschel Babbage held various public appointments in South Australia. In 1858 he was leader of a northern expedition but because he was so thorough he was considered too slow and was replaced by P. E. Warburton in November.
