African American songster Mance Lipscomb was the first musician recorded by Arhoolie Records founder Chris Strachwitz in 1960 ( Texas Songster ARH00306). In 1964, Lipscomb recorded his second album in Strachwitz’s living room in Berkeley, CA, during a single session. The songs range from blues to spirituals and ballads to popular songs.
