The Herbie Nichols Project was an American jazz ensemble dedicated to performing the music of composer and pianist Herbie Nichols . History. The group was co-founded in 1992 by pianist Frank Kimbrough and double bassist Ben Allison, both members of the Jazz Composers Collective.

11 de oct. de 2023 · The Herbie Nichols Project revisits the rarely recorded works of pianist Herbie Nichols, who died in obscurity in 1963. Pianist Frank Kimbrough leads a fine quintet through ten of Nichols' works, including the richly voiced "Wildflower," featuring tenor saxophonist Ted Nash and trumpeter Ron Horton, then adds a second version as a piano solo.

A New York group, the Herbie Nichols Project (part of the Jazz Composers Collective) has recorded three albums largely dedicated to unrecorded Nichols' compositions, many of which Nichols had deposited in the Library of Congress.
