The Concerto, Opus 35, is considered thè best known score from this period of his output, and its success has never wavered. It is less a concerto for trumpet than a concerto for piano with trumpet obbligato and string orchestra. That is why Shostakovich entitled his Opus 101 thè "Second" Piano Concerto.
