Nicholas Porter Earp (September 6, 1813 – February 12, 1907) was the father of well-known Western lawmen Virgil, Wyatt, and Morgan, and their lesser-known brothers James, Newton and Warren Earp. He was a justice of the peace, a farmer, cooper, constable, bootlegger, wagon-master, and teacher.
Father of legendary Earp brothers of Tombstone, Arizona. In 1847 Nicholas joined the Illinois Mounted Volunteers to serve under his neighbor and commanding officer, Wyatt Berry Stapp. On March 19, 1848, Nicholas had a fourth son that he bestowed with the full name of his commanding officer.
When Nicholas Porter Earp was born on 6 September 1813, in Lincoln, North Carolina, United States, his father, Walter Cooksey Earp Sr, was 26 and his mother, Martha Ann Early, was 23. He married Abigail Storm on 22 December 1836, in Hartford, Ohio, Kentucky, United States.
