Jack’s 2002 solo debut Red Horse, White Mule was a bit of an outlier in the underground gestalt at the time of issue, coming just before the wave of releases from the new generation of Takoma/Fahey-inspired players.
His first proper full-length, Red Horse, White Mule, (named after brands of moonshine mentioned on a best-selling sermon of the late 20s, "The Black Diamond Express Train to Hell" by Reverend A. W. Nix) was released on vinyl by Eclipse Records in 2002.

In the seven years since he recorded ‘Red Horse’ – the title track of his first album on Eclipse records, Red Horse, White Mule – he amassed a number of albums that are among the definitive guitar recordings of the decade.
