The legacy of the Mar-Keys is that they were key players in the development of Southern soul and Memphis soul. In 2012, the Mar-Keys regrouped with a lineup consisting of original members Wayne Jackson, Floyd Newman, Don Nix, Smoochy Smith, Terry Johnson, plus former M.G. Lewie Steinberg , and original member Packy Axton's son Chuck.
