Jazz Is a Spirit is an album by drummer Terri Lyne Carrington. It was recorded before an audience at Master Control Studio in Burbank, California during February 2001, and was released in 2002 by the German label ACT Music.
Terence Oliver Blanchard (born March 13, 1962) is an American trumpeter, pianist and composer. A jazz musician, he has also composed film scores and operas. He started his career in 1982 as a member of the Lionel Hampton Orchestra, then The Jazz Messengers. He has composed more than forty film scores and performed on more than fifty.
Terence is unique in the jazz world as an artist whose creative endeavors go far beyond the genre into film scoring, crafting television series soundscapes and conceiving grand operas that have been recognized at the highest levels of art appreciation.

(February 07, 2024) — Jazz at Lincoln Center celebrates Terence Blanchard – groundbreaking trumpeter, composer, and orchestrator – by presenting his career retrospective in jazz across two nights of performance.
Blanchard described Fire Shut Up in My Bones as "opera in jazz". [1] . It is the composer's second opera, following Champion in 2013. Aside from opera, Blanchard has won five Grammy Awards for his jazz records. [2] .
