Nic Potter (18 October 1951 – 16 January 2013) was a British bassist, composer and painter, best known for his work with the group Van der Graaf Generator in the 1970s.

He was a respected musician who worked with legendary progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator in the 1970s. Nic Potter was born October 18th of 1951 in Wiltshire. He joined Van der Graaf Generator in 1969.
Nic Potter is probably best known for his time spent as the bassist for Prog band VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, as well as playing bass on many of Peter Hammill's solo albums. He also however has released quite a few solo albums himself, which feature heavily on synths, not to dissimilar to Berlin School.

Throughout the 70s, Potter built a reputation as a gifted musician and songwriter, working with the likes of Jeff Beck, Chuck Berry and Steve Swindells. From 1979 to 1981 he was in the critically acclaimed band The Tigers, with Tony Jacks and Nick Coler. Together they toured all over America and Europe.
