Matthew Barley (born 2 May 1965) is an English cellist. He is best known for his performances of core classical music, improvisation, and contemporary music including electronics.

M atthew Barley is internationally known as cellist, improviser, arranger, music animateur, and Artistic Director of Between The Notes. His musical world is focused on projects that connect people in different ways, blurring the boundaries that never really existed between genres and people.
Matthew Barley studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and at the Conservatory of Moscow. Finalist at the LSO-Shell competition, he made his debut in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto at the Barbican Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra.
