The first incarnation of The Motels formed in Berkeley, California in 1971. [2] Lisa Brenneis (bass) persuaded Dean Chamberlain (lead guitar), Chuck Wada (rhythm guitar) and Martha Davis (vocals, guitar) to form a band (then called The Warfield Foxes). [3]

Mini Bio. Lisa Brenneis started her career in entertainment as a founding band member and bass player for The Motels. Upon colliding with 1970s Rock sexism, she helped found the satirical Punk band VOM. After a half dozen years in the L.A. Rock scene, Lisa got more serious about her day job at Churchill Films educational film company.

After their bassist Lisa Brenneis left the band, they rebranded and called themselves Angels of Mercy, then they become, “The Motels”. After many band line-up changes and failed auditions, The Motels finally caught a break in May of 1979 and got a recording contract with Capital Records and released their debut self-titled album.
