3 de feb. de 2023 · Founded in 1940, Francis T. Nicholls Senior High School — now Frederick A. Douglass Senior High School — had a long history of venerating the Confederacy. The school was named for Francis T. Nicholls, a Confederate general who became the governor of Louisiana and a Louisiana Supreme Court justice.
13 de abr. de 2016 · Amid mass charter school development and the School Facilities Master Plan aimed at reconstructing the city’s education landscape, Douglass remained one of the only open access public high schools in the historic Upper 9th Ward.

History. A Cherished Tradition Since 1885. The rich tradition of Frederick Douglass High School dates back to 1883 when some high school courses were added to the subjects taught at the Grammar School for Colored Children, located on Holiday Street.
