Music for an Urban Church begins with the earliest work in the collection, Gregg Smith’s Jazz Mass for Saint Peter’s. It is the only work on the recording first performed in Saint Peter’s 1904 building, a neo-Gothic pile that stood on the same intersection where today’s modern sanctuary now rises.
