At the time, CHURCH OF MISERY had a new singer, Nobukazu Chow. In 1998, with this line-up, they released an EP called “TASTE THE PAIN” on Bad Acid Records (UK) and a split CD, “BORN TOO LATE” with Canadian doom band SHEAVY.

In 1996, vocalist Nobukazu Chow replaced Asaeda. The band's first EP, Taste the Pain, was released in 1998 by Bad Acid Records, followed by the Murder Company EP in 1999 on Man's Ruin Records. Singer Yoshiaki Negishi and drummer Junji Narita replaced Chow and Shimizu, respectively, in 2000.

Later in 1996, after the recording of "ADV.1996", Asaeda was replaced on vocals by Nobukazu Chow. Church of Misery's first official musical release came in 1998 on Doomsday Recitation.
