Formed in 1971 by producer and former music journalist Uwe Nettelbeck, the group was originally composed of Werner "Zappi" Diermaier (b.1949), Hans Joachim Irmler (b.1950), Arnulf Meifert, Jean-Hervé Péron (b.1949), Rudolf Sosna (1946 – 1996) and Gunther Wüsthoff, working with engineer Kurt Graupner.
Rudolf Sosna (1946 - 1996) sang and played guitar & keyboards in the original incarnation of Faust. He wrote much of the lyrics and music of many of their most memorable early songs, like Flashback Caruso and Stretch Out Time from The Faust Tapes, Meadow Meal From Faust, It's A Bit Of A Pain from Faust IV. 12 de ago. de 2014 · Inevitably, Virgin dropped Faust. They disappeared in the 1980s altogether – one of their members, Rudolf Sosna (described by Péron as the “true genius” of the band) sadly died.

Faust ( German for "fist") is the debut studio album by German rock band Faust. It was released in 1971 through Polydor Records. Although it was never a commercial success, Faust has garnered much retrospective acclaim from rock critics.
