Glenn apostaba, por vez primera desde que se hizo un nombre con Priest, por editar su disco. Su propio reino hecho disco. Un material que demostrase a qué nivel se encontraba el tipo. ¿Sonaría su disco a Priest? ¿Sonaría a todo lo contrario? ¿Sonaría a Iron Maiden? La respuesta, conociendo "Baptizm of Fire".
Glenn Tipton, guitarrista de Judas Priest publica su primer disco en solitario en 1997, llamado Baptizm of Fire. Para su realización contaría con cuatro bajistas de lujo, John Entwistle ( The Who ), Billy Sheehan ( Mr. Big ), Neil Murray ( Whitesnake ) y el propio Trujillo.
Glenn recruited a small army of well known metal musicians to lend a hand to this album, allowing him to distance himself from the band mindset. Most notably, Robert Trujillo, Shannon Larkin, Billy Sheehan, Cozy Powell, and John Entwistle make appearances on this album. Glenn handles all guitar work and lead vocals on this album.
The album was recorded in LA with drummers Bruce Wackerman (Bad Religion) and Shannon Larkin (Godsmack), and the bass players Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Billy Sheean (Mr. Big) and CJ Devillar. Whitfield Crane joined for some backing and harmony vocals in two tracks.
