Newport '63 is a live album by jazz musician John Coltrane recorded at the 1963 Newport Jazz Festival, with one additional track recorded at the Village Vanguard in 1961. The album features the Coltrane quartet with drummer Roy Haynes substituting for Elvin Jones.
Roy Owen Haynes (born March 13, 1925) is an American jazz drummer. He is among the most recorded drummers in jazz. In a career lasting over 80 years, he has played swing , bebop , jazz fusion , avant-garde jazz and is considered a pioneer of jazz drumming.
It is a compilation of recordings in which Roy Haynes replaced Coltrane's regular drummer Elvin Jones. "Impressions", "I Want To Talk About You" and "My Favorite Things" were recorded live at the Newport Jazz Festival in July 1963.
30 de dic. de 2017 · After three or so minutes Jimmy and McCoy drop out and only Trane with Roy Haynes remain on the rest of this 15-minute track. If you like Trane's duos with Rashied Ali on Interstellar Space or his duos with Elvin on "Vigil" or some concert recordings, check this out!
25 de ago. de 2009 · There was a twofer in the 70's called To The Beat Of A Different Drummer (referring to Roy Haynes replacing Elvin Jones) with Newport plus studio material. I don't think there was a stand-alone release of Newport until the CD from the 90's.
