22 de mar. de 2021 · The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (BPP) was founded in October 1966 in Oakland, California by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, who met at Merritt College in Oakland. It was a revolutionary organization with an ideology of Black nationalism, socialism, and armed self-defense, particularly against police brutality.

During this time, he met Bobby Seale, and in 1966 the two founded the organization that was to become the Black Panther Party—originally known as the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. While Black equality was the goal, much of their initial focus was on ending police brutality.

Newton, American political activist, cofounder (with Bobby Seale) of the Black Panther Party (originally called Black Panther Party for Self-Defense), an African American revolutionary group, in 1966 in response to incidents of alleged police brutality and racism and to promote Black self-reliance.
In 1970-71 he and a codefendant were tried for the 1969 murder of a Black Panther suspected of being a police informer. The six-month-long trial ended with a hung jury.
